4 ways to talk about your core values
Having a set of core values for your company is one thing. Making sure your entire team puts those values into action for each other and your customers each day – that’s a whole different story. We’re here to talk about the latter.
Over recent years, many industries – real estate included – have emphasized company values internally and externally. Why is this important? Core Values are defined as a set of fundamental beliefs, ideals or practices that inform how you conduct your life, personally and professionally.
Whether you and your team live out a set of principles every day, or adopting your own set of core values is on the to-do list for the end of the year, here are a few tips for you:
- Write them down. A good practice for anything important is to physically write it down. It will help imprint those values into your mind. It’s also helpful to be able to look at them whenever you need a reminder.
- Integrate them into what you do every day. Once you’ve adopted these pillars, always aim to operate according to these core values, no matter what you’re doing. Eventually, it will become second nature to you.
- Talk about your values with your team and customers. Your values shouldn’t be a secret. In fact, they’re designed to be your value add. So, it’s important to talk about them. If your clients are aware of your core values before working with you, then you’ll have a better experience and more likely end up working with people whose values align with yours.
- Use them in recruitment, too. The more you talk about your values, the more they become ingrained as part of your company’s story and internal culture. Job candidates today want to be part of something bigger, and sharing your core values during the interview process is a way to show them how great of a workplace you provide.
Core values are key, whether you’re using these values to build your individual brand or to strengthen an entire team’s culture. After all, the more businesses set their core values and stick to them, the better off they will be.
