3 real estate predictions we’re making for 2025

In addition to the holidays, December is the time when predictions for all things 2025 take center stage, and we’re getting in on the fun! 2024 was a roller coaster, but we’re ready for a year of exciting transformations shaped by emerging trends, shifting economic factors, and evolving consumer demands. Here are three things all of us in real estate should know going forward.

Demand for convenience will continue to rise. Real estate has always been about location, location, location. Still, there’s a new term that developers and buyers of existing homes should know that focuses on convenience and amenities. We’re talking about the 15-minute neighborhood, which is defined as an area where residents can access essential services, schools, work, and entertainment within a 15-minute walk or bike ride.

Inventory will continue to be an issue. Coupled with interest rates, “inventory” was one “I” word always on the minds of buyers the last couple of years. There’s hope that it will continue to climb and home sales will increase. However, there are a combination of factors, including slow construction rates, baby boomers aging in place, and rising demand from Millennial and Gen Z buyers that could keep inventory low. For those hoping to buy, it’s important to be ready to make a move. On the flip side, prospective sellers should know it’s still a good time to list.

Let’s talk about sustainability! Environmental consciousness is expected to play an even larger role in real estate decisions in 2025. Green building certifications, energy-efficient features and renewable energy options will become standard in many new developments, and buyers of all kinds will be on the lookout for green features for their new house, regardless of the age of the home. Some common in-demand additions are solar panels, smart thermostats, and homes made with eco-friendly materials. If you’re an agent, highlight those benefits on the listing side, and make sure you’re talking about the tax incentives and other benefits for environmentally-friendly features for buyers.

This month is always a mixture of wrapping up the old year and preparing for the new – mixed in with plenty of festive cheer. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for choosing to work with our teams, and we can’t wait to see what we all have in store in 2025!
