In 1975, rates were 9%, and a stamp cost how much?

It’s time to dive into a little bit of history! A new year, especially a round one like 2025, always makes us nostalgic. We don’t mean to make you feel old, but 2000 was 25 years ago.

But we’re going even further back. In 1975, Gerald Ford was president, the Pittsburgh Steelers won their first Super Bowl, and Jaws became the first movie ever to cross the $100-million box office threshold that summer. Like now, inflation was a concern for many – and mortgage rates topped 9%. (So, it could be worse.) Here’s how much other things cost in the U.S. then, too.
