4 tips for a smooth move this spring

March is known for many things: St. Patrick’s Day, the start of the spring homebuying season, and for being a bit mad – at least when it comes to college basketball. That’s why it’s the perfect time for your trusted title and escrow company to provide a list of moving tips to make your move less hectic.

This list has become sort of an annual tradition for us, and we’re happy to keep it going. After all, we’re one of the last steps on the journey home before you move on to a new chapter. So, without further ado, here’s this year’s list.

Book movers early. Spring is a popular time to move, so if hiring professional movers, schedule them as early as possible. Waiting too long could mean limited availability or higher prices. If you’re moving on your own, reserve your truck rental in advance to avoid last-minute headaches.

Protect your plants and pets. Living things of all kinds should be handled with care. So, if you’re moving with houseplants, make sure they’re in well-ventilated boxes and not exposed to extreme temperatures. Set up a quiet, comfortable space for pets away from the moving chaos. Consider having a friend or pet sitter look after them for the day to reduce stress.

Do some work before the big day. No, we’re not talking about the importance of decluttering and getting rid of items that don’t need to go with you to a new place, though that’s important, too! This blurb is all about taking care of some other essentials. That list includes transferring utilities, updating your address, and more.

Have an open-first box and a first-aid kit. We’ve used these before, but they are both worth repeating. After all, you’ll only need a first-aid kit if you don’t have one. But what’s an open-first box? The first night in a new home can be stressful when everything is packed away. Make it easier by having essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, basic cookware, and even a coffee maker for the morning all in one place. Load this box last onto the moving truck so it’s the first (or only) box you’ll need to unpack that night.

Have questions about how to make your move smoother? Ask us or your real estate agent! We’re all here to make sure there is a celebration at the end of the homebuying or selling adventure in any way we can.
