5 things to do for your home this summer

While it’s only officially been summer for about two weeks, the Independence Day holiday marks the unofficial halfway point of summer. With that in mind, our teams wanted to present you with a summer home maintenance checklist. After all, a few simple checks now can save you from big (and expensive) headaches later. Consider it our way to help you celebrate the freedom and joys that come with homeownership.

Your summer home checklist starts here:

Make sure your AC unit is ready for success. As most of us know, your air conditioning unit is your home’s best friend during this sweltering season, but it needs some TLC to run its best. Start by swapping out the air filters. Then, clear any dust from your vents and gently clean the coils to help improve airflow. Not up for the task? Schedule a quick pro tune-up. And while you’re at it, flip your ceiling fans counterclockwise to help circulate the cool air your AC is working hard to produce!

Focus on the windows in more than one way. Brighten up your home by giving your windows a good wash—try tackling them early morning or late evening to avoid streaks. As you’re cleaning, check for sneaky drafts around doors and windows. Feeling air leaks? Time to update your weatherstripping or touch up the caulk.

Curb appeal isn’t just for sellers. Give your porch, patio and driveway a good power wash for instant curb appeal. Trim any branches that are too close to your siding or roof to prevent damage. Curious about heat’s impact on your lawn? See this helpful article for more.

Don’t forget about grill maintenance. Hopefully, you’ve been enjoying your outdoor setup for at least a few weeks now, but even the fun stuff could use your attention, so you’re ready to relax and entertain in style all summer long. We’re talking about the grill – and everything else that goes with it. BBQ! Give it a deep clean inside and out, and check your propane lines for leaks. While you’re at it, wipe down any outdoor furniture and add covers for extra protection (use that power washer again here if you’re so inclined).

Let’s talk about bugs. Summer heat brings uninvited guests —especially pests and mold. Protect your home by sealing up any gaps around windows and doors to keep pests outside. Don’t forget to clean trash cans regularly and inspect common problem areas, such as under sinks, bathrooms and your basement for mold. Catching moisture issues early can save you major headaches later!

No matter what you have planned for the rest of summer, we hope it’s full of both relaxation and fun! Plus, if you’re looking to buy a home this season, one of our local teams would love to assist with your title and closing work. We always keep our cool under pressure!
